The NYC Diaries (P8)

As the forecast promised, we woke up to a thick white blanket of snow and a heavy layer of view blocking fog. Our time in the city had brought us some gorgeous weather but I think this was by far my favourite. After admiring the snow from the comfort of our tiny bedroom - I headed to the showers to prepare for the day. It was at this point we were told that our flight home had been rescheduled for 8pm the next day - giving all of us piece of mind to enjoy our last 2 days.

With every layer of thermal clothing I owned on (and bearing a strange resemblance to a yellow Michelin man) I rendezvoused with the other snow goers and headed out into the blizzard.

Our first stop was breakfast. We'd spoken to the Visual Ad students the night before about heading to the same place for some grub - and so when we walked in to the buffet it was lovely too see it rammed with familiar faces. After enjoying a very large plate of pancakes, french toast and a huge fresh orange juice, we decided to head off on our city adventure.

First stop was the post office. Both Becky and I had some postcards to send and so we made it our first official business of the day to send them off. Might as well get the chores done in the bad weather. Trundling out of Central Terminal, we headed off to the main event of the day - Central Park.

Now I feel like its everyone's dream to see Central Park in the snow. I know it was definitely one of mine (and I had quite a few massages from you lovely bunch telling me how it was yours too). I am so chuffed to be able to tick it off my bucket list and let me tell you... it is 100 times better than I ever could have imagined.

It was like walking through a real life story book. The way the snow swirled around us made the entire skyline look like a watercolour painting and just strolling along the path felt like walking in a dream. It suddenly hit me that this was my last full day with my wonderful new friends. It was an honour to fool about in the snow with each and every one of them and I want to thank them again for getting me through the homesickness I suffered the night before. Of course, a photo-shoot was inevitable, followed by a snowball fight and tonnes more giggles to top off the outing.

After dispersing into smaller groups, Leah, Chloe and I headed into Tiffany's to try and grab a cuppa (we didn't have enough money for breakfast, though of course that was the dream). Having not done our research properly, we were unlucky in our quest. The waiting list is several months long so if you're heading into the city and want to visit the Blue Box Cafe you might want to get booking now!

With the cold finally seeping in, and our shoes and feet a soggy mess of slushy snow, we headed back to the hostel to dry off and warm up. We had a lovely afternoon of chilling, chatting and watching the odd show on Netflix.

It hit around 6pm when I finally decided I was hungry and going a little stir crazy with being stuck in our tiny room. With Mandy and Leah kindly offering to accompany me on my evening hunt for food, we headed back outside, wrapped up in our now dry clothes. We decided to first pay Times Square a little visit. We were all intrigued to see what it was like in the snow and for lack of a better work to describe it; it was deserted. Its hard to describe how eerily quite the Square was - considering how rammed it normally is. We were 3 of around 40 people dotted over the large expanse and the lack of cars and taxis almost made me question which city I was in.

After a quick shop in Pandora and purchasing my 'Tourist Tat' to take home, we headed back to central terminal for a shake shack dinner. Mandy had already eaten dinner so we waved goodbye as she headed back to the hostel. At this point it was around 9:30pm so we were both relieved to find a queue of people and not a shut counter. our food was quickly demolished and our walk back was peaceful as we were both in a food induced trace. This was the last time seeing the city at night and I think we were both very appreciative of having the extra day to enjoy it.

Finally entering back into our tiny room I said goodnight to my favourite Roomie for the last time. Thanks for the snow New York - It was a pleasure.

Stay Snazzy

Bxx
