Snazzy goes Site-Seeing...

Today was our first and only full day to explore the city. We headed out nice an early, slathered in suncream and cameras in hand. Representing all tourists everywhere we started our stroll in hunt for breakfast.

We new exactly what we were heading for, so found ourselves back in the same part of the city we were in yesterday; only this time our noses led the way. Rounding a corner, the sweet smell of cinnamon and sugar filled the air; breakfast had arrived! Chimney cake is one of Hungarys' delicacies, and is made from sweet, yeast dough. A strip of this dough is then spun and wrapped around a cone–shaped baking spit, and rolled in granulated sugar and cinnamon. It was yummy, so far the food here has been epic! I mean... just look at the joy in my face as demolish what is basically a donut on steroids!

Feeling very full we headed over to grab a guided bus tour. Bus tours are a great way to explore the city, as you can hop on and off as many times as you like. We pretty much used it as we do the busses at home which was good.

Our first stop was the Buda Castle. The view was amazing! We've been really lucky with the weather so far, so we could see for miles (and blue skies always make pictures look better!)

We also had lunch up at the castle, so as we went for Italian last night (and the chimney cake was so good this morning), I thought it best to try some more traditional Hungarian food. Authentic gulyás a dish halfway between a stew and a soup. It is cooked with onions, Hungarian paprika spice, tomatoes and some green pepper. They had also added potatos and carrots to mine. Again I cannot find a fault with the food, and the homemade lemonade finished off my lunch nicely. Gemma wanted to try the lemon beer, so we had a taste. It's safe to say that in our expert opinions, the beer is defiantly something we would have again.

From the castle we walked over to Fishermans Bastion, which was given its name due to the fisherman guild who used to protect the Buda side of the castle wall. This for me is up there with being my favourite part of our time in Budapest. The gothic architecture was gorgeous, and against the blue of the sky, the whole place looked magical. Photos just don't do it justice but I'll add one for you all anyway.

Feeling tired and preparing ourselfs for what we had planned for this evening, we headed home for a pit stop, and rest. Reloaded and with phone now fully charged, we were ready for stage 2 of the day. Dinner.

Neither of us were particularly fussed about what to have for dinner, and we were running to a rather tight schedule if we were to attend what we had planned for after dinner.

In the end we found ourselves back over in our favourite part of town, and settled in a restaurant with some rather lovely cocktails! (I had a Cosmo and Gemma a Russian mule).

For dinner we demolished a plate of pasta each - I know, not very Hungarian but we struggled with finding a restaurant that had a vegetarian option for Gemma. I had a Green lasagne with a Parmesan crisp, while Gemma had a bowl of Goats cheese and spinich Gnocci.

Once fed and watered, we started the rather brisk walk back upstream to our next destination. (And by brisk I mean a rather pacey speed walk that left us both out of breath by the end of it).

Our final destination was Margret Island, the small piece of land that sits between Buda and Pest. All of the things we have done so far have been recomended to us, and we have loved doing every single one of them. However, we wanted to make our trip a little bit special, and do something that we had found ourselves; this was our little find.

A few times a day, the fountain on Margret Island decides to hold a small party for itself, and dances to the music with a whole array of colours and lights. We headed over for the last show of the day at 9:00 o'clock, to watch the sun set and see the glowing disco in the dark.

The show was spectacular and by far the best thing I have done in Budapest! Surrounded by happy locals and dancing kids, I really felt part of the city. The photos and videos don't do it justice so please go see it if you have the chance.

On a way back we headed over to the bridge too see the city lights and to take some last photos of Budapest at night. We also took a couple of photos that we would never have got if we had been supervised. No way in hell would my mum of let me sit on the edge of a bridge, at night, over a river of raging currents. Don't worry Mumma, for the second time today, I've managed to post this picture after it's been taken, meaning I'm safe!

I am now currently sat in bed writing you this, and preparing myself for another early alarm awakening tomorrow.

Outfit wise I coloudnt resist a bit of a citrus vibe! I've spent the day fully decked out from head to toe in H&M (Thank you for these gorgeous dungarees), with the only odd one out being my shoes. Converse are super comfy and perfect for a good walk around... and they are yellow, so a win/win!

Well I should probably get some sleep as:

  1. I am up early tomorrow.

  1. I'm knackered from what was probably the most exercise iv done in a long time!

Stay Snazzy!

Bxx
