Well I have to admit, Morris dancing on the village green is not how I normally spend a typical Wednesday evening, but i have to say, it was jolly good fun!
The Woodside Morris Men were founded in 1957 and are members of the Morris Ring, the English Folk Dance and Song Society. Morris dancing is a form of English folk dance and consists of rhythmic stepping in choreographed sequences, performed by dancers usually wearing bell pads on their shins. Sticks and handkerchiefs are also used during the dances.
After a few drinks in the pub, the jingling of bells and smacking of sticks announced the start of the dancing. Each dance was different, and put everyone in a good mood. Towards the end I was invited along to join in with one of the dances, and how can you refuse! I mean come on, who doesn't want to wear bells on their shins! It was a blast, even if I do have two left feet.
Who knows, maybe I'll do some morris dancing more often... Or maybe I wont.
Stay Snazzy!
